JORDAN CATALANO WHO/FOR MY SISTAS

Just got back from a romantic dinner with my girl Ayan, she who wined and dined me like she was straight crushin'...

It's kind of like we're doing a sweet little dance, because first I met her after class and gave her a white lace Road to Avonlea-ish dress and this really fantastic purple plaid belt that I picked up while cruising all the shops I never go to on St. Denis last Saturday when my mom came to hang with me and drink wine and eat sushi and talk about life.

You know how when you live in a city with lots of cool shopping, you can get sort of over it (and poor??) and just watch Season 1 of 90210 over and over and over again??

When people come to visit, they always want to "go shopping!" and then I remember that there are lots of sweet little shops around the corner from me that are fun even just for looking.

I found this store that has leather bags that are remakes of 1920s postal delivery bags from Paris in 1921. They are the size of a large envelopes and they are buttery delicious-smelling leather with POSTES embossed on them and they are really just so beautiful and I wish that I could have one but they are SOMETHING LIKE THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS.

Anyway, I met Ayan after class because our art history classes are right next door to one another and I gave her a present because I think she's the best and then she was like GIRL WHAT IS YOU SAYIN, LET ME TAKE YOU OUT.

Last night I ordered Boustan with my girls Dani "The Deej" Jackson and Melle Mel, and I didn't know they deliver because I've only ever gotten Bouston when I'm at work and I work like a stonesthrow away from Bouston so I never even thought to ask them to deliver. Although I'm sure they would... Thing is, Mr. Boustan is so incredibly charming and funny that if you're having a bad day and you weren't even hungry, you could go and order a vegetarian pita instead of going to see a rom-com and you would feel much better, even better if you gave your pita to that guy with the glasses and black hair that always has a cardboard sign telling you he needs beer because he's alright.

So after we dished and dismissed our worries, we went to Cock & Bull, where we united with a motley crew of Dani Jackson fans, there to send off The Deej into the deep unknown of Vancouver...where we know lots of kind and fun people who will welcome her and invite her over to play Duck Hunt. (Big ups to Maryam and Sarah Allan!)

Maryam moved back to Vancouver LAST week and also it's her birthday, MARYAM IS TWENTY-FIVE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARYAM!!!

So it was karaoke night, so I sang You Oughta Know to get the party started and it was kind of incredible and some of my very favourite ladies were there and then I got swayed into entering a karaoke contest that takes place in the next few weeks, with a grand prize of like a thousand dollars!

Not that I will win, but there are like 7 runners up with the minimum cash prize of 75 bones which is fun if it's yours, and if you don't win, you get like, a bunch of beer and cheesy t-shirt so everybody wins!

I'm glad I went to karaoke because I didn't really feel like it earlier that evening and then I felt girlpowered out.

I sang CRUISIN' with Dani Jackson and it was pure love.

We shut the place down with Young Turks, the best part being that I had registered as Kimberly Stewart. (Weird, just found out me and K.S. have the same birthday! Also if you cared to notice, the Weezer video I posted yesterday is from a live performance from August 21st also!!)

Also, Dani sang A Long Walk as the night drifted away and I was mesmerized...

I was right at the stage touching her fingertips like I was the number one fan...considering I was the number one fan.

Then I said, "Dani, let's take a long walk home together..." and everybody laughed and then I said "What?? Let's! I mean we're going in the same direction!"

I know that's not the funniest thing in the world, but it's cool when you realize your sense of humour is still around, when you had feared it was frozen 'til summer...

I was pretty sure Dani's friend Arnie's friend Dwayne was Busy's brother from Ready or Not but he said it wasn't true (but he was lying.)

Then Cody from Degrassi Next Gen walked by and he and Arnie were like SUP because they have a class together and then Dwayne was like "YOU'RE FROM DEGRASSI! WHAT HAPPENED?! DIDJA GET FIRED?!?!"

And Cody laughed it off and said, "Hey, I gotta learn!"

I think that Cody liked our rendition of Young Turks like nobody else in the room, so GOD BLESS DEGRASSI!

This is for my sister, for reminding me that one day Angela Chase woke up and she was okay afterall...

WHITE BIKINI BARES IT ALL...

This morning I felt like Jennifer Aniston.

And by that I don't mean that I woke up with perfect hair. I hadn't even gone to bed yet actually.

It's like I was Jennifer Aniston at the post office in Shoppers Drug Mart ("Pharmaprix"), you know, because I had to send something to New Zealand!

And then I (in the spirit of Jennifer Aniston) think, "Why did I come here right now? Of course I'll run into flipping tabloids and overhear the gossiping of people I don't know! DUH! UGH!"

Well in my world, that's what it feels like to log onto facebook and not know how to turn off the newsfeed (can you??) and be flabbergasted by the notion that people I don't know think it's cool to publicly put their two cents in on my relationship that just ended. A relationship, it should be noted, that was not theirs??

So I know that text messaging and cell phones and cybernetworks blah blah blah have changed people's notions of etiquette, and I should just accept that. And I know that most people have better things to do than read the tabloids, but whatever, it was pretty lame.

When I saw that it was apparently appropriate to broadcast one's opinion about a situation one can not possibly know very much about, I felt like "Wow, really??" so basically it was like when Jennifer Aniston said "That was uncool."

So I know I thought I was supposed to be all lighthearted in here, but this is just a friendly reminder that we could all (some of us more than others) stand to be a little more sensitive.

All this goes to say that I didn't not have a great night last night before I accidentally let my raw feelings get hurt when I got home.

I had a really fun time with some really cool pals and I was happy. More on that later, right now I'm going to the YMCA eventhough I missed Regis & Kelly...maybe some New Degrassi will be on there! Toby from Degrassi was at Cock & Bull last night. More on that later...

Anyway, this week is sort of hard but I seem to be navigating it okay...

And don't I look cute in my white bikini??

Yeah! Seeya!

SIGNS OF LIFE!!!

It still smells like new car in here! So many possibilities!

New car is a smell that is both unsettling and exciting, no??

It's like "Well this smells funny and not like that comfy shitbox with 10 year old kleenex boxes under the seats and the broken tape player that only plays one tape because it's stuck."

But...it's also like "Yeah, but this smell means roadtrip because no one I know is buying a new car and I don't even know how to drive so this is cool because I just get to sit in the back and read trashy magazines and let my hair blow in the wind!"

Ayan! You are driving!

How do you feel about renting a brand-new one of these??

Excellent! Pick me up at 8, I'll buy breakfast.

So last time I wrote here I was stoked on a really fun January with my steady.

I joked in a carefree manner with smooth sailing undertones...

Shortly thereafter, a skeleton would fall out of the closet, which is sometimes a bummer and in the case, yes, it was a bummer.

Love can make you idealize someone, which may not be ideal considering no one is perfect, but nevertheless, love can do that.

Here's the thing about finding a skeleton in the closet. You think, "Maybe I can just shut the door and surround myself with stuffed animals and go back to sleep like it's no biggie! I mean, it wasn't Andre the GIANT'S skeleton! It was more like that of an Oompa Loompa..."

Besides, if there are more unexpected guests, you can just make them into scarf and sell it to young Hollywood!

Easier said than done...and then it's like, "If you want to destroy my sweater..."

Anyway, February was not that fun or funny, so I didn't really feel like writing.

Devin asked me why I never blog anymore which struck me as a silly thing to say if it were a genuine inquiry...

I write when I have funny thoughts, when I am happy and when I can find humour in situations that are not necessarily happy or funny. This last month proved pretty hard to navigate.

Cream eggs are delicious and I am glad that I had some bestowed upon me in recent weeks, but cream eggs are like a gateway drug...

You see, you want a cream egg, and you get one. Then you get another and you're like "Sweet, another cream egg!" but then you start to wonder if even all the cream eggs that bunny rabbit lays would make you feel better, really...

Maybe?? Probably??? Let's see!

It would take a really serious bunny.

And they are few and far between...

I honestly don't follow blogs with regularity, but I know that some people really dish their innermost turmoil, in the spirit of misery loving company. And you can go hang out there if you know where those blogs are but I am keeping this vague and lighthearted because then I can get on with more funny things.

What the heck is this blog about anyway?? I know that it's basically about nothing with some reference to my life...I guess when I think about it, I hope that when someone raids this fridge they never leave feeling like life is a major bummer.

Today I went to my favourite yoga class that I haven't been to in forever, mainly because when someone you love moves to where you are and rarely if ever has to wake up early, you can get in the habit of sleeping in and forget that you don't even like sleeping in that much.

When I was on the elliptical at the Y this morning, I overheard the following exchange between the man next to the woman next to me and the woman next to me (both in their early 70s).

"You smell good! You smell like orange blossom water!" he said.

"Oh, thank you" she giggled.

"You do, you're like a Greek pastry!" he gushed.

I could feel her blush and it was the best.

As I looked out the third floor window at the corner of Saint Viateur and Parc, the day seemed to be warming up. Everything felt different than the last time I remember really registering that corner (in mid-June), but it was a different that I could roll with, whichever way the wind blows.

And roll with it I will. See you soon!

TAKLING DREAM PHONE.

Hey man...

Biggest thing this week is that me plus Devin equals one year of going steady.

I did it once when I was a teen but Devin never has so he was pretty stressed but maybe he was just stressed because he is getting old.

Come to think of it, that's exactly what he looked like all through MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D because he was very very afraid.

By the way you guys, that movie is serious F-U-N!

Meanwhile, I had my head between my knees as I hyperventilated over the fact that we tried to go to CHEAP MOVIE TUESDAY and then the "birthday" boy wanted to see MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D and then it cost like THREE DOLLARS MORE!!!

It was so totally worth it though to see Kid Rock's ex-girlfriend make a bad name for models turned actresses...I wish her guts had exploded towards my face though, because it's always fun to see pretty people get butchered, rather than just the bleached blonde whoorebag with the face you don't even notice because she is jiggling her funny boobs around running naked in heels...

Devin decided that since we were going steady for one year, it was now time that he be allowed to have a cigarette in my bed??

It was pretty.

OH GROSS.

Last night we danced around to D'Angelo covering Bill Withers' Use Me.

Then Devin was like "I hate you you're the WORST MOM EVER!!" because I made him have some cough syrup because he keeps waking me up with that shit.

Is cough syrup really that terrible?? I thought that everyone got fucked on it in boarding school...Like my dear friend who shall remain nameless (JENNA BOND), at boarding school in grade 11 she was like "Are you 'tussin?" as in "Are you getting fucked on cough syrup?"

HAVE A NICE DAY!

A WHOLE NEW WORLD [ALADDIN'S THEME]

DEAR SIR,

IT'S MY STEADY'S BIRTHDAY TODAY. I MADE HIM A CARROT CAKE LAST NIGHT AND WE ATE IT AT 4 IN THE MORNING AND IT WAS DELICIOUS.

TODAY I MET MY NEW COUSIN MAX AND HE IS SMALL AND CUTE AND HAS THE PRETTIEST BLUE EYES AND THE COOLEST DINOSAUR SUIT. I'M SO JEALOUS. MY COUSIN ERICA TOOK ME OUT TO LUNCH AT AUX VIVRES. IT WAS DELICIOUS AND SHE IS A VISION OF LOVELINESS.

I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO BLACK HOLE SUN LATELY AND ALSO VARIOUS AWESOME HOLE JAMS AND TODAY I HEARD THE GOSSIP COVER AALIYAH BUT IT WASN'T AS COOL AS I HAD THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE. I LOVE THE GOSSIP, I WANT TO ROLL AROUND WITH THEM IN A BIG BED WITH SILK SHEETS. MORE THAN I WANT TO BE SWALLOWED WHOLE BY ANDREW W.K. IN ONE OF HIS POWER SHAKES. COURTNEY LOVE CAN COME TOO. IF YOU'VE EVER HEARD HER TALK ABOUT THE TIME PRINCE PHILLIP CAME OVER FOR TEA AT 3 AM, YOU KNOW WHAT HEAVEN IS LIKE. LIKE A LIAM GALLAGHER INTERVIEW...

I TOLD DEVIN THAT I DON'T THINK HE MOVES ENOUGH AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE DOESN'T THINK I WRITE ENOUGH. FOR EVERY BLOG I WRITE, HE'LL WALK AN HOUR, MAYBE WE COULD EVEN STROLL TO THE OLD PORT AND BE ROMANTIC AND IT COULD BE FUN?? HE'S WALKED MORE THAN I'VE WRITTEN BUT SO WHAT?? I'M WRITING THIS FOR HIM BECAUSE HE'S WEARING THAT PLAID SHIRT I LIKE WITH THE MAROON CARDIGAN...AT LEAST HE SAID HE WOULD. IT'S TIME TO GO DO KARAOKE AND EAT INDIAN FOOD. TODAY I HAVE AN ARTICLE IN THE LINK, I THINK. I HOPE IT DOESN'T SUCK.

REGARDS,

NIKLAUS JUNG

P.S. THE FUNNIEST WAS WHEN JONAS SAID "I HOPE YOU GET TO SEE FLEETWOOD MAC. EVEN THOUGH I KIND OF HATE FLEETWOOD MAC."

SPEED OF GOD.

First things first. Is anyone really into this band called The Big Pink??

I heard of them a few days ago when I was listening to this show on BBC1 with Annie Mac and Lily Allen as guest DJ. Lily played this track called Too Young To Love at the end and said these guys The Big Pink are her friends and everyone should get really into them because they are "brill-yint".

[Hey Hugh!]

I really liked it in a familiar way but I thought it must be an old song I had forgotten by some old dudes she met when she was dating that guy from the Chemical Brothers, because it sounds kind of early-mid 90s but it turns out it isn't.

No one (of three cool-ish people) I asked had heard of them.

Does it sound a bit liked they've been trapped inside a heart-shaped box since 1993??

Besides the dancey drum machine thing or whatever you would call it and that muffled car alarm noise, it's sprinkled with Seattleism.

Whatever, maybe Diplo remixed it like 3 months ago (when it came out??) but I'm new on the internet and really have been living under a rock for about a year and have only in the past month remembered that there is a lot of music to be found on the world wide web, as well as television shows?

OH, WOW! COOL!

Anyway! I think I like this band and the video for this song is sort of cool too. Big up The Big Pink and Too Young To Love!!!

Next things next, I got a handwritten letter in the mail from my landlord (that lives above me) that told me NO MORE NICOLA and also wished my family health and happiness in the new year??

What made it so sad was that I went to the post office to pick it up, thinking it was going to be a fun letter from a friend that was full of candy or something...but NOOOOOO!

It was way harsh...but completely cordial.

I live alone in a basement apartment. I've never had a wild party where we played suck and blow and I've never had noise complaints. My speakers aren't even loud! If anything, they are the loud ones. It's true! Whenever their parents are out, the teen boys play Eminem and AC/DC really loud and watch Steven Seagal movies like their living room is a movie theatre!

Not that I care really, but still! I started thinking too much...are they mad at me because I left my Halloween decorations up until mid-November?? Is it the fact that I have had 4 post-it notes on my door since November 18th, 2007 as a science experiment to see how strong post-it notes are in the face of the Montreal winter?? Do they not like me because I am shy because they are very very French and I forget how to talk around them because I get nervous?? Are they mad because they saw me naked once or four times??

Telling my parents seems sort of like showing them a bad report card. Too bad I can't just turn the F- into an A+ like Stephanie Tanner...

I don't really know why no more Nicola but what blows the most right now is that in my shower, when I turn on the hot water, nothing comes out. No water whatsoever. The cold tap dispenses cold. Now that my feelings are hurt, I don't know how to approach them...

This better not be some kind of sick joke.
